BIOLOGY I
Required: Grade 9
2 Semesters - 2 Credits
This lab course introduces living processes and characteristics of living organisms. Areas of study include the following: the cell, classification, organisms of the five kingdoms, genetics, evolution, and ecology.
CHEMISTRY I
Required: Grade 10
Prerequisite: Biology I & Algebra I
2 Semesters - 2 Credits
This lab course focuses on the concept of matter and its changes. Areas of study include the following: measurements, atomic structure, compounds, molar values, chemical equations, stoichiometry, states of matter and different bonds. All units correspond with laboratory investigations.
BIOLOGY II
Required: either Biology II or Chemistry II
Prerequisite: Biology I
2 Semesters - 2 Credits
This course reviews topics of Biology I. Extensive study then concentrates on the forms and functions of organisms of the Animal Kingdom with corresponding dissection experience. The major systems of the human body are compared to that of the organisms of the Animal Kingdom.
CHEMISTRY II
Required: either Biology II or Chemistry II
Prerequisite: Chemistry I
2 Semesters - 2 Credits
This lab course focuses on bonding theories, equilibria, acids, bases, salts, and properties of solids. All units correspond with extensive laboratory investigations. **This course may be taught on a rotating basis every other year with Anatomy/Physiology depending on course enrollment.
PHYSICS
Elective: Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Biology
2 Semesters - 2 Credits
A survey of the physical laws of the universe, this course explores mechanics, light, sound, electricity, and nuclear energy. This course is useful to students planning a science related program in college. It requires a strong background in mathematics.
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
Elective: 10 - 12
Prerequisite: Biology I
1 Semester - 1 Credit
This course familiarizes students with anatomical structure and functions. Cat dissection, which emphasizes the various tissues and major organs, allows students to incorporate their learning experience in a hands-on environment. **This course may be taught on a rotating basis every other year with Chemistry II depending on course enrollment.
