Commission for Spiritual Life (Pam Deveary) GREETER AND USHER GUIDELINES—May 2009
Arrive at Church 20-30 minutes before Mass.
Take bulletins from sacristy and put in closet in rear of church and the large collection basket to table in back of church. *
Check to make sure collection baskets are placed in front of pews.
Please wear your name badge.
Greet people with hand shake and a Good Evening/Good Morning or possibly a Welcome if they are obviously visitors.
If people are standing in back of church, ask if they would like to be seated and seat them. You may look for available seats and invite people forward during the opening song. (After Mass begins, wait until the Alleluia verse to seat others.)
During the Creed, proceed to the front of church, and pick up collection basket from in front of first pews. The two in middle aisle will begin with side wing pews. (Don’t worry about starting together; it is not necessary to bow.)
After placing the offering into the one basket at back of church, proceed with basket, wine and bread and give to presider** in that order.
Return to your seats by way of the side aisles.
At the end of Mass, DISTRIBUTE bulletins to individuals as they leave Church. (At side door, it will help if one stands by end of front pew handing out toward side aisle; the other stands at end of last pew of side wing right by the door.
*When Deacon Mike is assisting, please process on left side of aisle with wine decanter and give it to him; the bread will be given to Father from the right side of aisle.
After Mass, straighten up pews, etc. count cash, write down amount with your initials on money bag and put $$ in bag and deposit collection at River Valley drive thru at Walnut and Main. (Please decide among your team who would drop off the collection.) Key would then be returned to sacristy.
(Bags are now disposable and special directions for their use are in the drawer where they are stored-next to the deposit key.)
Fire extinguishers are in back of church and in sacristy.
Restroom is outside down the alley and near the end of the church building. (A first aid kit is in closet at back of church.)
