Friends of Shawe and Pope John Schools, Inc. scholarships are provided through endowed restricted funds and are available to students currently enrolled in Pope John XXIII Elementary and Shawe Memorial Junior Senior High School. Donations are accepted to create a new scholarship or to contribute to an existing one. This may be done as a memorial to a loved one or to honor the donor’s specific interest.
Pope John XXIII Scholarships
Anna Frazee Schmidt Scholarship
Amount: one $500 scholarship
Distribution Schedule: Pope John’s Honor’s Day program
Selection Criteria: awarded to a Catholic, Pope John student who is in good academic standing, whose family is in need of tuition and fee assistance and who is in the first, second or third grade
Schroeder Foundation Scholarship
Amount: two or more $250 scholarships
Distribution Schedule: Pope John’s Honor’s Day program
Selection Criteria: awarded to a Catholic, 6th grade, Pope John student whose essay is judged the best on the topic of “Why I like Shawe Memorial Junior Senior High School.”
Family Service Scholarship
Amount: one $500 scholarship
Distribution Schedule: Pope John’s Honor’s Day program
Selection Criteria: awarded to a Catholic family who has supported the school through service.
Shawe Memorial Scholarships
Elizabeth Hoffman Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $100
Distribution: Honor’s Day program, by Principal or Dean of Studies
Selection Criteria: awarded to a Catholic, 8th grade, Shawe Memorial student who is planning to attend Shawe Memorial for 9th grade and who has shown academic excellence and a warm hearted spirit.
Herman and Rosella Hoffman Scholarship
Amount: $500
Distribution: Honor’s Day program, by Principal or President
Selection Criteria: awarded to a junior, Shawe Memorial student who shows distinguished involvement in community service, the recipient must exemplify and consistently ask. “What can I do for you?” while demonstrating Catholic values in their daily life.
The Matthew J. and Clara Hunger Hoffman Family Scholarship
Amount: $500
Distribution: Honor’s Day program
Selection Criteria: awarded to a Catholic, underclassman, Shawe Memorial student who is in good academic standing and whose family is in need of tuition and fee assistance
Karen Dierkes Ihle Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1000
Distribution: Graduation, by Dierkes family member or the previous year’s winner
Selection Criteria: awarded to a Catholic, graduating, Shawe Memorial student who has displayed the highest academic achievement
Sedam Contracting Corporation Scholarship
Amount: $200
Distribution: Honor’s Day program
Selection Criteria: awarded to a graduating, Shawe Memorial senior who has an excellent school attendance record.
Father Charles Walsh Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $100
Distribution: Graduation, by the Principal
Selection Criteria: awarded to a Catholic, graduating, Shawe Memorial student who has high academic achievement and has proven quality citizenship standards
